The covered bridges of the Outaouais: the last roofs of our rivers

Tuesday, October 21
At 7 p.m.

Where: Library (100, ch. Old Chelsea)

Price: Free

Speaker: Michel Prévost

Over a thousand covered bridges, also known as red bridges, once graced the Quebec landscape. Unfortunately, these privileged witnesses to our past are disappearing one by one. There are less than a dozen in the Outaouais region, fewer than a hundred in Quebec, and just one in Ontario. Fortunately, Chelsea still has one at Meech Creek.

Come and discover the fascinating history of the last roofs on our rivers. Why were covered bridges built in the first place, and why did they stop? Why have they almost all disappeared, and why must we preserve the last ones for future generations?
