Fire ban in force and call for vigilance

June 6, 2023

The many wildfires raging across Quebec are being felt in the air right here at home. The country is currently going through a major forest fire episode, and Quebec is particularly hard hit.

For several days now, the SOPFEU risk index has been at the EXTREME level. This means that a complete ban on outdoor fires is in effect in Chelsea. This includes open fires with or without a permit, fires in a fireplace with a spark arrester, fireworks and all pyrotechnic items.

The Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux has issued a press release calling on the public to remain attentive to public advisories and regional alerts concerning smog and ambient air quality.

In areas affected by plumes of smoke, to reduce exposure, it is recommended :

  • to close windows in homes, living environments including daycare centers, schools and workplaces, and avoid using ventilation systems with outdoor air exchangers;
