By September 30, 2025, all residential outdoor pools with a water depth of 60 cm or more must comply with the Quebec government's Residential Pool Safety Regulation. This obligation applies to all facilities, including those installed before November 1, 2010, which were previously exempt. Other pools must already comply with current standards.
To avoid unpleasant surprises, we recommend that you check your pool's compliance now and take any necessary steps to bring it up to standard. Self-assessment forms (French only) from the provincial government are available to help you determine how to secure your pool and whether it meets the standards set by the Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l'Habitation.
Don't forget to apply for a permit
Obtaining a permit and carrying out the work can take some time, so it's best to plan ahead. To fill out a permit application to build a fence, a low wall or a pool access gate, go to the citizen portal, PiVOT, in the “Online Requests” section.
The Municipality will inspect residential swimming pools to ensure compliance with provincial regulations. Owners whose facilities do not comply will be subject to fines applied per section 9.1.1 of the Permits and Certificates By-law (No. 1219-22).
