March 8, 2013

CHELSEA, March 8, 2013- The Municipality of Chelsea wishes to inform the population that the Meredith Centre will reopen to the public tomorrow morning and all activities and operations will return to normal.

Since all work required to reopen the centre has been completed and a favorable engineer's report has been filed, the Municipality will therefore reopen the building, both community centre and arena, on Saturday morning.  Caryl Green, Mayor of Chelsea, said she is very happy to be able to reopen the centre and wishes to be reassure all: "I am pleased that we can restore public access to the Meredith Centre. It is one of the cornerstones of our community and, on one hand, it was important that we protect the public by closing the centre but, on the other hand, we also needed to quickly and effectively correct the situation. Under the circumstances, I am satisfied with the way we handled this situation and wish to thank all those involved in this effort. "

Municipal authorities have confirmed that the damage is not structural, but are still waiting for information from the insurer for next steps. However, the Municipality wishes to reiterate that everything is secure and safe. For any questions regarding courses, reservations or activities, please communicate directly with the Meredith Centre at 819 827-0055 or info@centremeredith.ca.

The reopening of the Meredith Centre follows the collapse of the rear wall of the centre's arena which took place on Thursday, February 28, 2013.
