Unveiling of the program for the 150th anniversary of the Municipality of Chelsea

January 28, 2025

Mayor Pierre Guénard publicly unveiled the program for Chelsea's 150th anniversary at a convivial event held last night at La Fab sur Mill. He made the announcement in the company of several former Chelsea mayors, local politicians, municipal employees and community members.

With the slogan Cultivons notre avenir en célébrant nos racines, the 150th anniversary program reflects both Chelsea's rich history and its dynamism today. The festivities kick off on February 23rd with the Winter Fun Day event. This will be followed by a number of events throughout the year, including the return of Chelsea Days on June 7 and 8, and historical walks led by the Outaouais theatre company Dérives urbaines.

The program also includes a contest scheduled this spring to find a nickname for Chelsea residents.

In addition to the activities organized by the Municipality, the program also includes a number of activities and initiatives by participating community groups and businesses. For example, La Fab sur Mill will be presenting several shows and activities (play, film, photo exhibition). The program will be enhanced throughout the year. The Municipality invites residents to consult its website frequently at chelsea.ca/150-en to make sure they don't miss a thing.

Creation of the 150th Anniversary Fund for community organizations

Mayor Pierre Guénard also announced a $30,000 fund to support projects undertaken by local community organizations as part of the Municipality's 150th anniversary celebrations. Named the 150th Anniversary Fund for Community Organizations, the money will be used to encourage initiatives that contribute to community development, strengthen social ties and celebrate our collective history. Organizations are invited to submit their projects no later than April 11, 2025. Full details are available at chelsea.ca/150-en.
