What is household hazardous waste? (HHW)

 

Household hazardous waste (HHW) refers to waste from hazardous products commonly used in homes, such as used oils, paints, solvents, compact fluorescent light bulbs, pesticides, drugs, cleaning products, etc.
 


HHW collection

Residents can take advantage of a special collection to dispose of their HHW.

 

Date: May 17, 2025

Time: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Location: Municipal Garage (119 Chemin Scott)

 

We invite those interested to read the details and instructions carefully.

Residents are invited to bring their hazardous household waste (HHW) directly to the municipal garage. Municipal employees will be on hand to assist you. Please follow these guidelines:

  • Have proof of residency on hand;
  • Bring your HHW in their original containers, if possible;
  •  Follow the directions and safety instructions of the staff on site;
  • Place your HHW in designated areas on site;
  • Ask an employee for help, if needed.

 

Used oils, lubricants, empty containers and filters

  • Oils (liquids or aerosols) in their original containers of 20 litres or less, clearly identified and hermetically sealed
  • Dirty oil filters in a transparent plastic bag
  • Lubricants

Hydrocarbons

  • In their original container, clearly identified and hermetically sealed
  • Fuel, gasoline in a container suitable for transport (e.g. red canister)
  • Therebentine, Varsol, thinner, stripper, alcohol, shellac
  • Maintenance or cleaning products, drain opener and degreaser
  • Pool and spa products
  • Adhesive, tar, epoxy, paint remover
  • Pesticides and fertilizers

Painting

  • In their original container (liquid or aerosol), clearly identified and tightly closed
  • Paints (latex, alkyl, enamel, anti-rust), stains, lacquers, primers, varnish, wood preservative, linseed oil​​​​​​​

Electronic Residues

  • E.g. computers, televisions, cameras, phones, laptops, printers, ink cartridges, etc.

Others

  • Automotive Batteries 
  • Tires with and without rims
  • Rechargeable and non-rechargeable batteries

  • Mercury and fluorescent lamps

 

Any HHW not listed above, such as:

  • Weapons, ammunition, explosives and dynamite
  • Biomedical, radioactive, domestic and compostable waste
  • Commercial and industrial waste
  • Construction waste
  • Compressed gas cylinders
     

Any unknown product or damaged container will not be collected.
